A changing society places new demands on design

The starting point for the design of A. Ahlström Oy’s new Medical-Activa patient bed series was to create a bed that meets the needs of patients with multiple disabilities. The design had to take into account reducing the workload of the reduced nursing staff, increasing patient autonomy and improving hygiene levels. In addition, several separate functions were integrated, including a special mattress for bedsores, a patient lift and a bed washing function. The project was a collaboration between the client, an engineering office and a design agency.
