Jukka Vaajakallio’s design philosophy can be summed in the following way: “Good design does not mean a better-looking product, it means a better product”. Vaajakallio has always emphasised the functionality of a product at the expense of its design flow and aesthetic qualities, as he believes that the designer is also a representative of the user in the product development project. He has stuck to this principle, even if this mindset has not always necessarily helped his career with new clients. Vaajakallio is proud of all his long-term clients, with whom he feels he has achieved “something phenomenal”.

After graduating as an industrial designer from the University of Art and Design in 1975, Vaajakallio worked first as the chief designer at Finlux factory and then at Lohja Display Electronics. In 1985, he founded Vaajakallio Design, an industrial design agency offering comprehensive product development services.

Vaajakallio has worked with products from the engineering, electronics, and plastics industries. His archive contains a wide range of material from throughout his career. Here you can see for a catalogue of the archive, digitised photographs, and photos of the objects.
