Miettinen Eero
Eero Miettinen graduated as an industrial designer from the University of Art and Design in 1980. He then worked as a designer in the Finnish truck and car industry and in high-tech companies. Miettinen started his career in 1980 at Sisu Auto Ab, where he designed heavy-duty vehicles, industrial tractors, and trucks. As Head of Design at Saab-Valmet, later Valmet Automotive, Miettinen focused on passenger car design and together with his team was responsible for concept and annual model design of convertibles. In 1998, Miettinen moved from the automotive industry to become Nokia’s Head of Design, and since 2009 he has been the CEO of his own design company.
Miettinen also had an extensive teaching career. He has taught design at the Helsinki University of Technology and the Helsinki University of Art and Design, and later as a professor at Aalto University and Lahti Institute of Design. He also taught and lectured at numerous universities abroad.
Eero Miettinen’s extensive career as an industrial designer has been widely recognised. The award-winning designer was awarded Industrial Designer of the Year in 1994 and received the Kaj Franck Design Prize by Design Forum Finland in 2001. In 2008, the Helsinki University of Technology awarded Eero Miettinen an honorary doctorate.
