Junttila Ulla-Kirsti
Ulla-Kirsti Junttila graduated as an industrial designer from the University of Art and Design in 1978. During her studies she specialised in urban environment design and continued in the same field when she graduated as a Licentiate of Arts in 1994. Junttila is a pioneer in environmental products and urban design and has worked in environmental design since the beginning of the industry’s development. She has been involved in countless projects over more than 30 years, collaborating with the key players in the field.
During her career, Junttila has worked in her own design studio, as a product and environmental designer for the City of Helsinki and as a consultant at Sito. She is the author of several textbooks on urban design and has designed urban public spaces, promenades, squares, and markets. She was responsible for example street art projects for the City of Helsinki and designed several public environmental works. Junttila has also been involved in accessibility-related projects. In addition to her design work, Junttila has worked as a lecturer at the University of Art and Design and Lahti UAS. In 1987, Junttila’s pioneering work in urban design was rewarded with the first Industrial Designer of the Year award from the Industrial Designers Association.
